RE:OCEAN signs a letter of intent with Kalatukku E. Eriksson

One of the largest fish and seafood wholesalers in Finland.

RE :OCEAN will operate the first large-scale and highly innovative venture of salmon farming in Sweden, where the planned plant in Säffle will produce the equivalent of one in five salmons of Swedish salmon consumption. Approximately 10,000 tonnes of salmon are estimated to be produced annually in an ocean-like environment from 2026 and onward.

In a unique collaboration, Finnish Kalatukku E. Eriksson, which is owned by Kesko, has signed a letter of intent agreement with RE:OCEAN to buy a large share of the expected production of salmon.

” Since 1880, we have been serving the Finnish consumers and Horeca customers with first class fish and seafood. We have always focused on constantly developing our work with sustainability and reducing climate impact of whole value chain.

What RE :OCEAN is doing will offer new sustainable way the world consume Atlantic-farmed salmon, and we look forward to serving our customers with first class sustainable land-farmed Atlantic salmon. ” says Mikko Poikolainen – CEO of Kalatukku E. Eriksson.

Sweden will be able to go from importing salmon to becoming a significant exporter of the popular fish, while the focus will be on sustainability due to the state of the art and unique technology in the facility that recycles all water and focuses on minimizing the climate footprint.

Building of the facility will begin in the fall of 2023, and construction is expected to last for one year. After that, it will take about 2 years for a fry to grow into a healthy full-size salmon.

As of today RE:OCEAN has signed several agreements of intents with future customers, among others, Axfood, Coop and ICA in Sweden.

” The world and our neighboring countries have great confidence in the Swedish innovation power and our investment in sustainable, good and healthy salmon, and RE:OCEAN embodies all of that with a rocksolid focus on sustainability. Using the water of Lake Vänern, and combining break-through technology with local traditions of salmon refinement, we are proud to be able to supply Finland with our salmon through our partnership with Kalatukku E. Eriksson, ” says Morten Malle, CEO of RE:OCEAN.
